Here are some fundraising ideas for events to help your team raise funds for Relay Of Life. Most of these can be put together by a single team or in partnership with other groups.
Fundraising Billboard
A unique idea is to put together a fundraising billboard in support of breast cancer research. People pay a reasonable fee, say $100, to add a name to a billboard list honoring women who are struggling with or have the lost the battle with cancer.
Dinner Dance
Put together a fun dinner dance with live music and good food. It could be a formal affair with catered food or a rocking good time accompanied by a pig roast. Use a one price covers all approach, then add a cash bar or wine tasting to raise extra funds.
Fashion Show
Fashion shows are always fun and, if well promoted, can draw hundreds of women. Charge admission and offer lots of other fundraising activities. Add silent auctions for donated items or services such as spa treatments or private lunches with top designers.
Pancake Breakfast
A good location with lots of road signage can really pack them in for a pancake breakfast. Costs are low and opportunities to add-in extras are abundant. Offer raffle tickets, silent auction items, and sell ad space or sponsorships on your placemats.
Mardi Gras Fundraiser
Great parties like Mardi Gras events attract a fun-loving crowd. Book a good band and line up some Cajun food for a buffet. Sell beads, glow necklaces, party hats, etc. Run a cash bar and auction off something big like a trip to New Orleans.
Shop For The Cure
Another good idea is to work with local merchants to put together a special shopping experience aimed at women. Host in a convenient space like a convention center, church meeting hall, or even a shopping mall. Try to get as many items donated as possible while keeping things a win/win for your merchants. Don't forget to promote it to men also as a good place for gift buying.
Cow Chip Fundraiser
A country-style fundraising event involving raffling $20 chances for winning a $5,000 cash prize. The fun catch is that the winner is determined by where a cow answers nature's call on squares marked off in a field. Add in live music, barbecue, and family fun activities and you've got the makings of a major success on your hands.
Casino Night
Put together a full-fledged casino where adults gamble with play money for a good cause or just make the main event a Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament. Either one will draw a big crowd where you can add extra moneymakers like a buffet dinner, a cash bar, a whiskey tasting, cigar tasting, etc. Look to local merchants for partnerships and publicity.
Summary
Working with other Relay For Life teams allows you to pull off even larger fundraising events. Look to create a fun experience for just adults or hold a family-oriented Saturday afternoon event that offers entertainment to all age groups.
Work with local merchants to expand into offering silent auction items of donated goods and services. And most importantly, work hard to get advance publicity for your Relay For Life event from newspapers, radio, and television.

Using Coal Tar For Head Lice
Coal tar is a liquid by-product of the distillation process that turns coal into coke. It has long been used in products used in the treatment of skin complaints such as dandruff and psoriasis. It is also known to kill head lice when used as a shampoo.
Not all coal tar shampoos are equal when it comes to head lice. To effectively kill head lice you need to use an extra strength coal tar shampoo. Most "normal" strength brands have a 0.5% coal tar content. You'll need something stronger so read the labels. The strongest types are often referred to as being "therapeutic".
To kill head lice simply use the coal tar shampoo as normal but the lather on for 15 to 30 minutes. Then rinse through thoroughly. Use a nit comb afterwards to comb through the wet hair. Do this for three consecutive days. Then use twice a week after that with daily combing until the head lice have completely gone.
Some parents claim that by using the shampoo once a week their children seem less prone to being reinfected by head lice. Others use the shampoo as a precaution whenever they receive a head lice letter from school even if their children don't already have an infestation.
Is coal tar safe to use as a head lice remover? In high concentrations (over 5%) coal tar is a known carcinogen. Therapeutic strength shampoos can contain concentrations of 2.5% and some now carry a warning about the carcinogenic properties of coal tar on the label.
But the risk is very small risk. The National Psoriasis Foundation claims coal tar is a "valuable, safe and inexpensive treatment option" and coal tar products have been used for a very long time. There is feeling that the benefits far outweigh the small risks involved. All of the over the counter head lice shampoos come with a health risk attached. Coal tar is no different but coal tar is an effective way to kill head lice, it has been used safely for many years and should have negligible risk when used only occasionally.

Anti-aging Moisturizers in the Treatment of Adult Acne
Anti-aging moisturizers have traditionally been used to soften and hydrate the skin and removing fine lines and wrinkles. However, very few women know that this product can effectively be used to combat acne. There exists a connection between anti-aging and acne. Dermatologists, named Dr. Albert Klingman and Dr. Eugene Van Scott started research with the aim of finding an alternative for benzoyl peroxide in the treatment of acne, and they had Vitamin A in mind. Most over-the-counter acne treatment products, like Clearasil, Proactive and the like use benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient. The flip side is that repeated use of this product can dry out the skin. Dr.Klingman finally succeeded in deriving Retin A from Vitamin A, and Dr. Van Scott discovered the beneficial effects of Alpha Hydroxy Acids, commonly known as AHAs. Women started using these products to treat acne. Soon noticeable reduction in wrinkles of the skin was also noticed by the adult women using these substances for alleviating acne problems. Retin A and AHAs emerged as the most effective anti-aging skin care products all over the world.
Both acne and wrinkles stem from the same problem build up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. Skin becomes rigid and the outer layer of the skin that is less flexible creases to produce wrinkles. When the dead skin cells clog the pores on the skin, acne is formed. AHAs, like benzoyl peroxide, can exfoliate this outer layer of dead skin, and effectively educe acne and wrinkles. Since benzoyl peroxide dries out the skin while removing oil, it ends up increasing the amount of dead skin tissue on the face. Ordinary moisturizers cannot help because these contain oils that further block the pores and aggravate acne.
Eminent companies like Murad and Olay have come up with a solution, and have developed moisturizers that suit acne prone skin. Moisturizers formulated with emulsified Jojoba oil have also been developed. Jojoba oil is highly effectual in moisturizing the skin. However, its molecular weight is lesser than that of sebum, the oil formed by skin glands. Jojoba oil effectively penetrates the layer of sebum and unclogs the pores, clearing out nascent whiteheads and blackheads. These types of moisturizers can be blended with AHAs to aid in exfoliation and thereby prevent future attacks of acne.
These novel acne products thus provide two-fold protections effective acne treatment as well as termination of wrinkles.
